Enthusiasts of fine design packed the Maserati Showroom on Park Ave in New York City for the launch of a very unique partnership between Architectural Digest magazine and Maserati North America. Together these two authorities on design are celebrating that special place where their passions meet, and are searching for and celebrating the finest architectural garages in the United States.
Leading off the event, Jeff Ehoodin, Maserati’s Public Relations Manager, opened the festivities by welcoming the engaged audience and introduced the extraordinary partnership.
Marti Eulberg, President of Maserati North America, further explained the connection: “Maseratis are noted for style and design excellence, and we are the only manufacturer to make use of a master designer – the great Pininfarina. This competition is a creative way to reach a wider audience of drivers passionate about design.” Noting the intersection of great design in both homes and automobiles, she continued, “And for those who share these two passions a garage is not simply a place to store a car, it is a place to join these passions in a celebration of both the automobile and architecture.”
Giulio Capua, Publisher of Architectural Digest, was equally excited about the partnership: “Once considered merely an extended function of the home, the garage is now a space where people are finding new inspiration architecturally.”
In the DESIGN DRIVEN competition Architectural Digest and Maserati are inviting the public to submit their own garages, both existing and imagined, in a special call for entries. Through a dedicated website, www.DesignDriven.us, entries can be submitted and viewed; in addition special content from Architectural Digest will be posted about garages and design. Everyone is invited to enter, both design and architecture professionals and students, homeowners, and non-professionals alike – anyone with a great garage, or a great idea.
As Tim Philippo, Marketing Manager for Maserati North America, explained, entries will be accepted through June 1st, and then the winning entries in both the existing and concept garage categories will be featured in a special Maserati section in the October issue of Architectural Digest magazine.
Standing among the GranTurismo and Quattroportes on display, the audience was abuzz with their own ideas and shared their stores of great garages they knew of, and their own dreams for the ultimate garage they would like to build. Energized by the partnership, many left the evening’s festivities expressing their excitement to enter the competition.
